SUMTER, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's and women's tennis teams, under head coach
Gene Highfield, will both open the 2021 Conference Carolinas Tennis Championships on Friday as the No. 6 seed and will compete against No. 7 Southern Wesleyan on the women's side and No. 7 North Greenville on the men's side.
The action will start tomorrow at 9 a.m. with the women's first round action, followed by the men's first round action slated for 11 a.m.
Previewing the men's side…Junior
Hanqing Wang, senior
Miodrag Popovic, sophomore
Landon Church and senior
Matt Meluch all lead the men's team by entering the championships with a singles record above .500. Wang finished 7-2 in singles competition to lead the Bobcats. The doubles teams of
Jofre Tura-Campalans and Church and Popovic and Wang closed out the regular season with a 6-3 and 6-4 records respectively.
Previewing the women's side…Senior
Sandy Allen, junior
Nursharneem Shamsuddin, and sophomore
Tessa Wells all closed out the regular season with records above. 500, led by Allen who is riding a five-match winning streak. The doubles team of Allen and Shamsuddin also posted a 7-4 record during the regular season to pace the Bobcats.
