Softball falls twice to Lincoln Memorial in non-conference twin bill

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Emma Jackson and Megan Powell both collected multiple hits in the second game and combined for three RBIs, but it was not enough as Lincoln Memorial won the first game 7-1, before finishing with 11 runs on nine hits in the later game to clinch the non-conference doubleheader against the visiting Bobcats this afternoon.
 
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lincoln Memorial – 7; Lees-McRae – 1  
LOCATION: Dorothy Neely Field – Harrogate, Tennessee
RECORDS: Lincoln Memorial (14-5), Lees-McRae (4-9)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Julie Gast and Rylie Webster both collected hits, with Gast adding an RBI and Webster scoring a run, to pace the Bobcats in the opening game.
  • After a scoreless first inning, Lincoln Memorial opened the scoring in the bottom of second with two runs on one hit.
  • The Railsplitter extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth and 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Lees-McRae cut the deficit to 5-1 in the top of the sixth inning as Gast doubled to left field that scored Webster from first base.
  • LMU closed out the scoring with two runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning to clinch the non-conference win.
  • Megan Powell surrended five earned runs on six hits in six innings of work for the Bobcats.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Sierra Hucklebee went 3 for 4 from the plate with two RBIs to pace the Railsplitters.
  • Emma Frost gave up only one run on two hits in seven innings of work.
 
GAME #2 BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jackson and Powell both went 2 for 3 from the dish, with Jackson adding two RBIs and Powell finishing with one RBI, to pace the Bobcats in the later game.
  • Hannah Foster and Webster also collected hits, while Webster and Julie Gast tallied two and one runs scored respectively.
  • Lees-McRae opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Powell singled with two outs to score Gast from second base, while Jackson followed Powell up with a RBI single up the middle to score Webster from third to give the Bobcats and early 2-0 lead.
  • Lincoln Memorial responded with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first.
  • The Railsplitters extended the lead to 6-2 with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the third, and pushed it to 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Bobcats pushed across their third and final run of the second game in the top of the sixth as Jackson once again hit an RBI single up the middle to give the Bobcats their third run.
  • LMU closed out the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the non-conference win.
  • Jada Wilson gave up seven earned runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Two Railsplitter collected multiple hits in game two, while Hayley Tamaro gave up three earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will return to Greeneville, Tennessee on Thursday, March 3 to finish out the non-conference doubleheader against Tusculum, which was originally started last Saturday before being postponed due to weather, at 4 p.m.
