SUMTER, S.C. – The Lees-McRae women's tennis team, under head coach
Gene Highfield, will make their third Conference Carolinas postseason appearance since the 2018-19 season when they face No. 7 Belmont Abbey as the No. 6 seed in the first round on Friday, April 29 at 11 a.m. on courts 19-24 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
Scouting the Bobcats…The Bobcats closed out the regular season by winning four of the final six matches en route to a 7-11 overall record (7-4 Conference Carolinas record) to clinch the No. 6 seed in the postseason tournament. Freshman
Rhidaim Yang and senior
Nursharneem Shamsuddin were both 8-3 in conference singles matches during the regular season, while senior
Zeynep Cakirer and sophomore
Laura Ocampo were both 7-4 against conference opponents in singles matches this season.
Scouting the Crusaders…The Crusaders won three of their last five matches to finish the season with a 13-16 overall record (6-5 Conference Carolinas record), but lost a 6-1 match to the Bobcats at home on Saturday, March 19. Junior Elliott Paterson enters with a 4-2 record in singles matches during the conference season.
The Rivalry…Lees-McRae is 6-6 against the Crusaders since the teams first met during the 2009-10 season and has won the previous two meetings, including a 6-1 win for the Bobcats in Belmont, North Carolina on March 19.
What's next…The winner of the first-round match will face No. 3 Erskine in the second round on Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m. at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
