EMORY, VA. – Megan Powell threw her first complete-game shutout of the 2023 season as Lees-McRa softball tallied a 4-0 victory over Emory & Henry in the second game of today's doubleheader.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 1; Emory & Henry – 6
LOCATION: Wasps Field – Emory, Virginia
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (8-5/0-0), Emory & Henry (4-6/0-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Powell opened the twin bill with a two-out home run to left field in the top of the first against Emory & Henry. The Wasps answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first to take the one-run advantage.
- Emory & Henry added four runs to collect the first game of the doubleheader by a final of 6-1.
- Emma Jackson and Jada Wilson each recorded two hits in the contest with Powell having the lone RBI.
- Wilson suffered the loss in the circle for the Bobcats as the senior pitcher went six full innings while allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits and striking out four Wasps on the afternoon.
FOR THE WASPS:
- Avery Adkins scattered seven Bobcat hits on the day while only allowing the one run via Powell's home run. Adkins had six strikeouts in the complete game over Lees-McRae.
- Adkins also led Emory & Henry at the plate with two hits and three RBIs and Lydia Taylor followed with two RBIs on her double in the first.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 4; Emory & Henry – 0
LOCATION: Wasps Field – Emory, Virginia

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae opened the scoring once again in the second game with the Wasps as Lauren Ritchie sent a two-run home run over the left field wall with Jannon Glaspie touching home on the play also.
- The Bobcats added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings with Powell collecting RBI singles in those respective frames.
- Powell added a multi-hit performance to her day in the circle with two hits, one walk, and two RBIs. Ritchie joined her with two RBIs in the contest and Grayson Buckner, Julie Gast, Glaspie, and Abby West all collected hits in the 4-0 victory.
- Powell earned her third win of the season for the Bobcats while collecting a season-high 10 strikeouts in her complete-game performance.
FOR THE WASPS:
- Abigail Street allowed three runs (three earned) on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched for Emory & Henry and was given the loss in the circle.
