Softball Settles for Split at North Greenville on Tuesday Afternoon

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team picked up a 4-2 victory in game one of today's Conference Carolinas doubleheader with North Greenville this afternoon as Grayson Buckner tallied two hits and two RBI in the opener.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 4; North Greenville   – 2
LOCATION: Jan McDonald Field – Tigerville, South Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (16-11/6-1), North Greenville (15-16/3-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Jordyn Scott got the Bobcats on the board first with a RBI double to left center that played Lauren Ritchie in the top of the second. NGU answered in the bottom of the third with a run scored to tie the contest at 1-all.
  • Buckner collected her first RBI of the day with a single up the middle to score Morgan Crowe and Lees-McRae held the one-run advantage.
  • The Bobcats added two insurance runs in the seventh inning with Buckner scoring Megan Powell on a RBI double and later scoring on a wild pitch.
  • Powell let up a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh but earned her eighth win in the circle. Powell only allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck out four Crusaders in the game.
  • Morgan Crowe and Julie Gast joined Crowe with a one hit apiece and Buckner went 2-2 at the plate along with two walks.

FOR THE CRUSADERS
  • Jenna Davis and Maddie Stone each had one RBI in the first game of the doubleheader.
  • Karley Green took the loss in the first game after going 6.2 innings pitched while surrendering four runs (four earned) on five hits and seven walks.

GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 9; North Greenville – 10
LOCATION: Jan McDonald Field – Tigerville, South Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (17-11/6-2), North Greenville (16-16/4-4)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • North Greenville combined to score seven runs in the final three frames of game two to rally past the Bobcats, 10-9. Ali Hartin hit a two-run home run over the left-field fence to give the Crusaders the walk-off victory.
  • Ritchie sent a two-run home run shot to give the Bobcats the 9-3 lead, but NGU slowly chipped away. 
  • Taylor Beurrier joined Buckner, Crowe, and Ritchie with multi-hit performances in the night cap with Powell accumulating three RBI  in the 10-9 defeat.
  • Buckner was dealt the loss after coming in relief in the seventh after allowing two runs (two earned) on one hit.

FOR THE CRUSADERS:
  • Ansley Fowler and Karley Green each had two hits from North Greenville in the second contest with Fowler leading the way with two RBI.
  • Green also collected the win in the circle after 1.2 innings of relief for the Crusaders.
 
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae heads to Due West, South Carolinas for a doubleheader with Conference Carolinas member Erskine on Friday, March 31.
