Softball Ends Road Trip with Pair of Losses at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. – Hannah Foster tallied four total hits and three runs-batted in today's doubleheader as Lees-McRae softball suffered two losses to Flagler.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 7; Flagler – 1 
LOCATION: Flagler Field –St. Augustine, Florida
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (10-7/0-0), Flagler (8-10/0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Flagler had two three-run home runs in the third and fifth innings against the Bobcats to secure the 7-1 victory in the first game.
  • Foster singled through the left side to plate Taylor Beurrier as the lone run for Lees-McRae.
  • Grayson Buckner and Foster each had two hits in the contest and Buckner recorded the loss in the circle going five innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and five walks. Buckner struck out four Saints on the afternoon.
  • Jada Wilson completed one full inning and had one strikeout in her relief appearance.

FOR THE SAINTS:
  • Jordan Sheets earned her fifth win of the season for Flagler while only surrendering one run (one earned) on seven hits and striking out four Bobcats.
  • Mackenzie Smith led the Saints with three hits and three RBIs and Trinity Fry collected the other three-run home run for Flagler.

GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 9 ; Flagler – 10 
LOCATION: Flagler Field –St. Augustine, Florida
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (10-8/0-0), Flagler (9-10/0-0)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Buckner connected on her fourth home run of the season as the Elkview, West Virginia native had the Bobcats in front with a two-run blast in the first inning. Flagler cut the lead to one run after scoring one run in the bottom half.
  • The Bobcats put up five runs in the third inning to take the 7-2 lead with Foster doubling to the right-center gap with Buckner and Emma Jackson scoring on the play.
  • Julie Gast capped the five-run frame with a single down the left-field line that scored Lauren Ritchie.
  • Ritchie claimed her second RBI of the game with a single to third base with Foster touching home plate as the Bobcats led 8-2 through their top half of the fourth inning.
  • Flagler answered with seven runs in the home half of the fourth inning and gained the 9-8 advantage. Mackenzie Smith plated the go-ahead run in the fifth with the Saints taking the second game by a final of 10-9.
  • Wilson took the loss in the circle for Lees-McRae after her second relief appearance on the day. Wilson went three full innings while allowing three runs (three earned) on five hits and striking out three in the contest.
  • Morgan Crowe led the Bobcats at the plate with three hits in four at-bats. Julie Gast and Emma Jackson joined Buckner, Foster, and Ritchie as each had two hits in the contest.

FOR THE SAINTS:
  • Madelyn Wise tallied the win in relief for the Saints while going 4.2 innings pitched and scattering nine hits and collecting five strikeouts.
  • Cassidy Crump led Flagler at the plate with two hits and four RBIs. Jordan Moss followed with three RBIs on a multi-hit day.
 
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae returns to Banner Elk for its home opener on Sunday, March 12 with a non-conference doubleheader against Mars Hill.
