SALISBURY, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team was back in action on Sunday with games against Catawba and Shippensburg. The Bobcats bounced in the second game of the day after plating eight runs in the sixth inning for the 13-4 win over Catawba.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Shippensburg – 10; Lees-McRae – 3
LOCATION: Whitley Field – Salisbury, North Carolina
RECORDS: Shippensburg (2-2), Lees-McRae (1-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Shippensburg opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning, but Lees-McRae pushed across a run in their half of the frame via Hannah Foster touching home plate.
- The Bobcats tied the contest at three runs in the second inning after Destiny Brown and Morgan Crowe scored in the frame.
- Shippensburg fired back with four more runs in the third and fourth innings as the Bobcats fell to the Raiders, 10-3, on Sunday afternoon.
- Brooks Eaddy drew three walks and collected a hit in today's contest. Six Bobcats recorded a hit against Shippensburg, and Browne and Crowe each tallied a run.
- Lonna Addison was given the loss in the circle for Lees-McRae after going 3.2 innings pitched while striking out four. Logan Zephir made the start for the Bobcats and went 1.1 innings and gave up three runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk.
FOR THE RAIDERS:
- Lindsay Morgan guided Shippensburg to its second win of the day with two hits and five RBIs. Brie Wilmot registered four hits and two RBIs for the Raiders.
- Alicia Bell had a complete game in the circle and collected 10 strikeouts.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 13; Catawba – 4
LOCATION: Whitley Field – Salisbury, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (2-4), Catawba (7-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae avenged yesterday's loss to Catawba with a convincing 13-4 win in Salisbury today. Lauren Ritchie accumulated five RBIs in the game on four hits and two runs. Hannah Foster and Eaddy registered two RBIs apiece and Foster had three hits and four runs scored in the win.
- Foster led off the contest with a solo home run over the left field wall. Catawba evened the score at one run in the bottom of the second and held a one-run lead through four innings.
- Ritchie singled up the middle in the fifth to tie the score at 2-2 with Foster scoring on the play. McKenzie Presson gave the Bobcats the lead off a sacrifice fly that scored Taylor Beurrier.
- The Indians answered in the bottom of the fourth with two runs to regain the 4-3 advantage, but the Bobcats answered once more in the top of the sixth.
- The Bobcats loaded the bases as the lineup turned over to Foster with one out in the top of the sixth. Foster drew a walk in her plate appearance and Beurrier gave Lees-McRae the 5-4 edge after a fielding error from Catawba. Ritchie doubled to the left-center gap to score two more runs for the Bobcats at 7-4.
- Eaddy singled in two more Bobcats with Beurrier and Ritchie touching home plate. Lees-McRae added two more runs to make the score 11-4 after the second throwing error by Catawba's third baseman.
- Ritchie continued her solid day at the plate in the seventh with a two-run home run as the Bobcats earned the 13-4 win over Catawba on Sunday.
- Addison earned her second win of her freshman campaign after going the distance and striking out four batters. Addison only surrendered four runs (four earned) on 10 hits and one walk in 34 batters faced.
FOR THE INDIANS:
- Brianna Gallagher and Kary Hales both had multi-hit games against Lees-McRae with Hales recording three hits and one RBI. Kinsley Caldwell recorded two RBIs for Catawba.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae makes the short trip to Hickory, North Carolina for a doubleheader with Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday, Feb. 20 starting at 2 p.m.
