BRISTOL, TENN. – Lonna Addison combined for 24 strikeouts this afternoon as the Lees-McRae softball team swept King in their Conference Carolinas opener. The Bobcats earned the first game by a final of 2-0 and stormed back for the 3-2 victory in the second game of the day.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 2; King – 0
LOCATION: King Softball Field – Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (6-11/1-0), King (13-10/0-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Addison was dominant in the circle in game one for the Bobcats with 14 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.
- Lauren Ritchie got Lees-McRae on the board with a solo home run down the left field line in the second inning.
- The Bobcats added another run in the fifth inning off a RBI single from Allie Johnston.
- Addison worked around a leadoff walk in the seventh inning with three consecutive strikeouts. The Bobcats earned the 2-0 win in the first game of the doubleheader. Addison earned her fifth win of the season and tied her season high in strikeouts with 14.
- Hannah Foster and Johnston each had two hits in the contest with Ritchie and Johnston adding one RBI apiece.
FOR THE TORNADO:
- Haylee Dye and Tinsley Thompson each collected a hit in the game. Savanna Luper suffered the loss in the circle for the Tornado while allowing two runs (two earned) on seven hits and four walks.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 3; King – 2
LOCATION: King Softball Field – Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (7-11/2-0), King (13-11/0-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- King scored the first two runs of the game with two runs over the first two innings.
- Destiny Brown led off the fifth inning with a single to center field and Morgan Crowe followed with a single down the left field line. Addison advanced Brown and Crowe into scoring position and Foster delivered a two-run single to center field to knot the score at 2-2.
- The Bobcats continued to put pressure on King in the sixth inning with Brooks Eaddy drawing a lead-off walk. Taylor Beurrier advanced pinch runner Avery Walston to second with a bunt single. Beurrier was able to cross home plate off a throwing error from King as Lees-McRae led 3-2.
- Addison came in relief in the second contest and struck out four of the last six batters to give Lees-McRae the 3-2 win on Wednesday afternoon.
- Foster led the Bobcats with two RBIs in the second game and six Bobcats got on base via a base hit.
- Addison collected her sixth win of the season after going 5.1 innings pitched in relief of Leah Dibello. Addison tallied 10 strikeouts in the appearance and only allowed one hit and three walks in the contest.
FOR THE TORNADO:
- Dye had a multi-hit game in game two with two hits in four plate appearances. Katie Ryan and Alyssa Suits each recorded one RBI in the game.
- Nikole Counts took the loss in the circle for the Tornado after surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks.
