BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae softball picked up a 2-1 victory in game one of today's doubleheader off a go-ahead home run from
Taylor Beurrier in the fourth. The Patriots earned the split with a 9-2 win in game two.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 2; Francis Marion – 1
LOCATION: LMC Softball Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (15-18/10-7), Francis Marion (36-10/15-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Francis Marion got on the board first with a solo home run from Peyton Gale in the second inning.
- The Bobcats answered in the third with a RBI single from Morgan Crowe that scored McKenzie Presson.
- Beurrier led off the bottom of the fourth with a home-run blast over the center-field wall to put the Bobcats up 2-1.
- Lonna Addison allowed one hit in the final three frames of work to give Lees-McRae the 2-1 victory over Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon. Addison secured her 12th win of the season while going seven innings and striking out seven.
- Beurrier, Crowe, Hannah Foster, and Allie Johnston all reached base in the contest with a hit and Beurrier and Crowe had the RBIs for the Bobcats. Presson reached base via a walk.
FOR THE PATRIOTS:
- Alyssa Poston was handed her fourth loss of the season after battling with Addison in the pitcher's duel. Poston went six innings while giving up two runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk.
- Gale racked up two hits in the game and Anderson Thrower added the other hit for the Patriots.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 2; Francis Marion – 9
LOCATION: LMC Softball Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (15-19/10-8), Francis Marion (37-10/16-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Francis Marion bounced back in second game of the day with the 9-2 victory. The Patriots scored runs in the final three innings of the twinbill.
- FMU tallied two runs in the second inning with RBI singles from Marlee McCormick and Makayla Cuthbertson.
- Presson and the Bobcats cut the deficit to one run off a single to left field that scored Beurrier.
- Francis Marion tacked on four more runs in the third and fifth innings. Presson homered down the left field line to make the score 6-2 in favor of the Patriots.
- Addison and Presson had two hits apiece in the contest and Presson recorded two RBIs and a walk also. Crowe and Johnston added the other two hits.
- Logan Zephir was handed the loss in the circle after going two and one-thirds in her start. Addison recorded five strikeouts in her relief appearance.
FOR THE PATRIOTS:
- Jenna Walling improved to 14-2 on the season with a complete game. Walling scattered six hits while surrendering two runs (two earned) and three walks.
- Katie Smith paced the Patriots with three hits and three RBIs. Four Patriots had two hits apiece in the win.
