Rocket League Team Advances to NECC National Tournament

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College Esports team, under head coach Michael Thomas, has advanced to the National Esports Collegiate Conference National Tournament in Rocket League after securing a spot yesterday evening.

In yesterday's Last Chance Qualifier, the Bobcats moved to the Quarterfinal round after defeating Carroll University in four games. In the first series against Carroll, the team recovered nicely by picking up the remaining two wins needed to secure a spot in the Last Chance Qualifier Quarterfinals.

In the Quarterfinals, Lees-McRae fell to Grand Canyon University in three games. The team then moved to a fifth-place match with Arkansas State. The Bobcats secured their spot in the NECC National Tournament with a three-game sweep of Arkansas State. With close victories in the first two matches of the series, 5-4 and 3-2, respectively, the team connected and capitalized on several opportunities to win the series-clinching game, 3-0.

The Rocket League team will now compete in the NECC National Tournament starting Friday, April 19, and concluding with the finals on May 3. The first-round opponent for the Bobcats will be determined later this week pending the conclusion of the Last Chance Qualifier first and third-place matches.
