YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Lees-McRae softball battled Young Harris on Friday afternoon, but fell to the Mountain Lions in the Conference Carolinas doubleheader.
Hannah Foster,
Allie Johnston, and
Shelby Knaak had two hits apiece over the two games.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Young Harris – 4; Lees-McRae – 2
LOCATION: YHC Softball Field – Young Harris, Georgia
RECORDS: Young Harris (20-15/7-4), Lees-McRae (11-16/6-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Knaak started the two-out rally in the second inning with a double to the left-center gap. Morgan Crowe brought Knaak home on a throwing error from Young Harris.
- The Bobcats doubled their lead in the top of the third after a leadoff double from Foster. Johnston put two runners on the corners with a single to outfield and stole second base on the next hitter. Lauren Ritche scored Foster with a sacrifice fly as Lees-McRae led 2-0. Young Harris cut the deficit to one run after a run scored in the bottom of the third.
- Young Harris knotted the score at two runs apiece in the fourth and hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth for the 4-2 victory.
- Lonna Addison went six innings on the day with four runs (three earned) on eight strikeouts and one walk.
- Crowe and Ritchie had one RBI each in the contest. Foster, Johnston, and Knaak all had one hit apiece in the game.
FOR THE MOUNTAIN LIONS:
- Kylie Ferguson earned the win in the circle for the Mountain Lions after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out seven on the day.
- Gracie Hughes had the go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth for Young Harris. Bailee Brown and Hannah Rizzuto collected one RBI apiece in the game.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Young Harris – 24; Lees-McRae – 4
LOCATION: YHC Softball Field – Young Harris, Georgia
RECORDS: Young Harris (21-15/8-4), Lees-McRae (11-17/6-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Young Harris scored runs in the first four frames of the second game of the day for a 24-4 win.
- Brooks Eaddy tallied two RBIs to lead the Bobcats. Taylor Beurrier and Johnston also recorded one RBI each in the game.
FOR THE MOUNTAIN LIONS:
- Grace Young took the win after going two innings and allowing three runs (three earned) on three hits.
- Sammi Martin paced the Mountain Lions with two hits, two walks, and four RBIs. Hannah Carey and Shelby Duncan each had three RBIs in the contest.
