GREENWOOD, Ind. – Begum Gumussoy,
Anita Ivanova, and
Rhidaim Yang were all named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Team.
To be eligible, student-athletes must possess at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, and graduate students must have at least a 3.50 in both degree programs. Additionally for tennis athletes, nominees must be present in the team's lineup for at least 70% of total matches.
Gumussoy, a junior from Istanbul, Turkey, finished 2024 with a record of 9-7 at No. 6 singles and 5-3 in Conference Carolinas play. Gumussoy went 12-8 in doubles matches for the Bobcats with a 5-4 in league matches.
Ivanova, a junior Business Administration from Nova Zagora, Bulgaria, compiled 16 wins at her singles position for Lees-McRae this year and was honored to the All-Conference Carolinas Third Team in the spring. Ivanova clinched the match point for the Bobcats in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship against Belmont Abbey and was selected to the all-tournament team this past April.
Yang, a junior Psychology major from Lima, Peru, rounded out the Bobcats on the CSC Academic All-District® NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Team. Yang earned All-Conference Carolinas First Team honors this spring after an impressive 19-1 mark in singles play. Yang ended the year on an 11-match win streak and produced 12 victories in her doubles matches.
