BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae Ski & Snowboard team kicked off their 2025 season last weekend with a competition at Sugar Mountain. Skiers competed in giant slalom and slalom events while the snowboarders just competed in giant slalom.
Hunter Post had a good weekend for the Bobcats as he finished fourth in slalom and second in giant slalom. In her first collegiate race, Avery Wortendyke got 25th in slalom and 26th in giant slalom.
The men's and women's snowboard teams picked up right where they left off last season. Both teams won their respective races on Sunday. Nicole Yoos, Abi Byrd, and Lilly Kamp finished first, second, and ninth respectively.
The men dominated the field taking an impressive seven of the top ten spots. Freshman Luke Koch came in first followed by teammates Kenneth Stanford, Aiden Garner, Chance Markland, Everett Denny, Ben McCain, and Luke Elting finishing in second, third, fourth, sixth, eighth, and ninth places respectively.
Lees-McRae will have a home competition next weekend at Beech Mountain.
