Softball Picks Up Two Wins at Carolina University

CLEMMONS, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team recorded 30 runs over two contests today as the Bobcats picked up the doubleheader sweep at Carolina University in Clemmons, North Carolina.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 9, Carolina – 4
LOCATION: Wilson Park – Clemmons, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (3-4); Carolina (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae used five runs in the third inning to break open the first game of today's doubleheader. Brooks Eaddy led off the inning with a single up the middle and scored off a single from Abby Hatley. Allie Johnston plated Jorden Clark on a sacrifice fly. Logan Zephir delivered the fifth run of the inning with an RBI single to left field and Haylea Huffines touched home plate.
  • The Bobcats tacked on a run in the fourth inning, but Carolina made things interesting with four runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 6-4 Lees-McRae lead.
  • Lees-McRae regained the momentum in the seventh with three runs. Emma Bigby knocked in Avery Walston with an RBI double down the left field line and Eaddy tallied an RBI with an infield groundout that scored Bigby.
  • Zephir started the contest and allowed four runs (four earned) on two hits in three innings pitched. Zephir had two strikeouts in today's start. 
  • Bigby picked up the win in the circle after going four strong innings of relief and scattering two hits in the game.

GAME #2 BASICS

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (4-4); Carolina (0-2)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bobcats continued the scoring into the second game with five runs in the first and six in the second frame.
  • Maycee Tickle singled and drove in Hatley on the play. Tickle scored on a fielding error by the Bruins third baseman to make the contest 3-0. Eaddy collected an RBI on an infield groundout for the 5-0 advantage.
  • Lees-McRae continued the hot batting with six more runs in the second inning. Tickle cleared the bases with a triple to left field that scored Taylor Beurrier, Hatley, and Johnston on the plate appearance.
  • Sarah Rudd moved the margin back to 10 runs off a RBI single in the fourth. Carolina answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 13-8 in favor of the Bobcats.
  • Lees-McRae used eight more runs over the final three innings for the 21-9 victory over Carolina.
  • Tickle led the Bobcats with four RBIs on two hits and two runs scored. Eaddy followed with three RBIs and Johnston recorded two RBIs, two walks, and one hit in the second game. 
  • Avery Walston led the Bobcats with three hits. Jorden Clark and Kierstin Kemper joined Tickle with two hits apiece in today's second game.
  • Emma Bigby earned the win in the circle after going two complete innings and only allowing three hits and one walk in the relief appearance.
