Softball Rallies for 6-5 Conference Carolinas Win over Converse

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball rallied back in the second game for the 6-5 win over Converse as the two sides split today's Conference Carolinas doubleheader.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Converse – 7, Lees-McRae – 6
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Converse (9-22/5-6); Lees-McRae (7-15/1-7)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Converse scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning.
  • Lees-McRae answered in the bottom of the first after an RBI single from Maycee Tickle. Allie Johnston followed with an RBI double that scored Tickle.
  • The Valkyries pulled ahead at 4-2 in the fourth inning with a two-run home run.
  • Lees-McRae trailed by three runs after the top of the fifth, but the Bobcats tied the contest with an RBI single from Johnston in the sixth. 
  • Converse broke the 6-6 deadlock in the top of the seventh after an RBI double from Charley Swartzel.
  • Haylea Huffines and Tickle led the Bobcats with three hits apiece in the contest. Tickle added two RBI and one walk. Johnston went 2-4 from the plate with two RBIs.

GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Converse – 5, Lees-McRae – 6
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Converse (9-23/5-7); Lees-McRae (8-15/2-7)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae bounced back in the second game after trailing 5-1 after the top of the fourth.
  • Jorden Clark started the rally with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning. Johnston cut the deficit to two runs with an RBI single that scored Haven Helton. Abby Hatley was able to continue the rally in the fourth after scoring a successful two-base steal. 
  • Lees-McRae tied the contest at five runs after an RBI double from Johnston. Huffines recorded the go-ahead run off an RBI single for the 6-5 lead.
  • Charlotte Lowry shut down Converse at the plate after throwing three and one-third innings of relief in today's game.
  • Clark and Johnston both went 2-3 from the plate. Hatley drew two walks and registered two runs scored in the victory.
