Flag Football Battles No. 9 Milligan in 13-12 Loss

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae flag football team returned to action this evening in a defensive battle with No. 9 Milligan inside Citizens Bank Stadium. The Buffaloes scored the go-ahead points in the final quarter.

FINAL SCORE: Milligan – 13, Lees-McRae – 12
LOCATION: Citizens Bank Stadium – Elizabethton, Tennessee
RECORDS: Milligan (15-0); Lees-McRae (5-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Makenzie Hicks led the Bobcats down the field to six points after finding Tami Chatwood in the endzone. Lees-McRae led 6-0.
  • Milligan answered on the ensuing possession as Bridget Keyser found her fellow teammate at the 9:23 mark of the second quarter.
  • The two sides played well defensively and forced multiple possession changes throughout the remainder of the first half.
  • Lees-McRae scored its second touchdown of the contest after Natalia Hernández de León caught a pass from Hicks in the endzone. The Bobcats were unable to convert on the one-point try, but led 12-6 in the fourth.
  • The Buffaloes regained momentum with an interception in the latter stages of the fourth quarter and converted the turnover into points three plays later. Milligan converted its extra point.
  • Lees-McRae had more opportunity and drove down the field to Milligan's 14-yard line. Hicks tried to find Hernandez de Leon in the end zone, but Milligan held tough for the 13-6 win on its home field.
  • Hicks threw for 206 yards on 31-48 and one touchdown. Ava Rivera went 1-1 from passing with one touchdown pass. Ashley Alvarado led all receivers with 99 yards on 10 receptions and Kennedy Vannoy followed with eight receptions for 43 yards.
  • Vannoy and Sofia Antwi-Silva led the Bobcats on the defensive side with five tackles apiece. Mackenzie Walker recorded one interception and two pass breakups.
