Flag Football Dominant in Two Conference Carolinas Victories

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae flag football team combined for 115 points and only allowed six points in today's two Conference Carolinas victories over Mars Hill and Mount St. Mary's. Makenzie Hicks threw for 536 passing yards and 14 touchdowns in the two contests.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 73, Mars Hill – 6
LOCATION: Tate Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (6-6/4-1); Mars Hill (0-10/0-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae jumped out to an early 32-0 lead before Mars Hill found the endzone with 2:07 left in the first half for a 32-6 deficit. The Bobcats led 39-6 at the halftime break.
  • The Bobcats added 34 more points in the second half for the resounding 73-6 win over Mars Hill.
  • Hicks went 28-36 passing for 323 yards and nine touchdowns. Natalia Hernández de León led the Bobcats with six receptions for 87 yards and three touchdowns. Kennedy Vannoy and Ashley Alvarado joined her with three touchdowns also.
  • Mackenzie Walker led the Bobcat defense with eight flag pulls. Vannoy had four flag pulls, one interception, and two pass break ups in the game.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 42, Mount St. Mary's – 0
LOCATION: Tate Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (7-6/5-1); Mount St. Mary's (1-4/4-7)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bobcats continued their dominance on the field with a 42-0 win over The Mount. 
  • Hicks threw for 213 yards on 21 completions and five touchdowns. Hernández de León hauled in six receptions ofr 95 yards and three receiving touchdowns. Ava Rivera and Alvarado collected one touchdown each in the win.
  • Sydney Stigler led the Bobcats on the defensive side with an interception touchdown. Walker led the Bobcats with eight flag pulls and one sack. Sofia Antwi-Silva had seven flag pulls, three for loss, and one sack.

Lees-McRae flag football hosts Barton and Mount Olive next Saturday starting at 1 p.m. on Tate Field.
