Softball Earns Senior Day Victory on Walk-Off Home Run

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Haylea Huffines hit a walk-off two-run home run in the second game as the Lees-McRae softball team picked up the 7-6 Conference Carolinas victory over North Greenville on Saturday.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King– 15, Lees-McRae – 13
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: North Greenville (31-18/20-7); Lees-McRae (9-31/3-23)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Huffines started her day at the plate with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.
  • Lees-McRae trailed 10-1 after the top of the fourth, but battled back with eight runs in the bottom of the frame.
  • Avery Walston brought in Allie Johnston for the second run of the game. Destiny Brown followed with an RBI single to the outfield. Elise Marion connected on an RBI single up the middle and Taylor Beurrier collected a two RBI single for the 10-6 deficit. Maycee Tickle sent a three-run home run over the fence as the Bobcats trailed 10-9 after four innings.
  • North Greenville built its lead back to six runs with the 15-9 lead in the fifth inning.
  • Kierstin Kemper joined Tickle with a three-run home run. Kemper drove in Jorden Clark and Walston off her three-run homer.
  • The Bobcats rally just fell short in the first game after scoring one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • Beurrier, Brown, Tickle, and Watson all had two hits apiece in the contest. Tickle and Kemper had three RBIs each.

GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 7, North Greenville – 6
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (10-31/4-23); North Greenville (31-19/20-8)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae held the 5-2 advantage until the seventh inning. North Greenville gained the 6-5 lead in the seventh inning, but Huffines rallied the Bobcats on a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the frame.
  • Johnston opened the scoring with a grand slam in the bottom of the first.
  • Abby Hatley added to the Bobcat lead after scoring on a wild pitch in the second inning.
  • Huffines delivered the play of the day with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Tickle continued her strong freshman campaign at the plate with three hits in the game and two runs scored. Beurrier and Huffines chipped in two hits.
  • Georgia McConnell earned the win in the circle after going seven innings and scattering six runs (five earned) on 11 hits and four strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae wraps up the 2026 season on Monday, April 20 against Lenoir-Rhyne on Bobcat Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
