BANNER ELK, N.C. - Queens University of Charlotte's Michael
Crouch ran an NCAA National Championship automatic qualifying time
in the men's 10,000m, but Lees-McRae has the day one lead at the
inaugural Conference Carolinas Track and Field Championship Meet at
the Arthur, Lauritsen and Sanderson Track and Field Venue.
Crouch highlighted the meet with a 29:55.75 10,000m time to win
the event by just over two minutes. Lees-McRae's Craig Simpkins
and St. Andrews' Mitch Cooper sprinted the last 100m with Simpkins
finishing second with a time of 32:12.56 and Cooper taking third
with a time of 32:32.99.
In the first event of the day for the men, the shot put, Matthew
Rogers, of St. Andrews, launched a 14.35m toss to win the event by
over two meters. Limestone's Randy Wingo finished second with a
12.79 distance, and Lees-McRae's Joe Daher finished third with a
distance of 12.32m.
Daher turned around and won the hammer throw with a distance of
38.48m, and Wingo and Rodgers took second and third respectively
with distances of 34.94m and 34.26m.
The men's high jump went to a jump-off to determine the winner with
St. Andrew's Charles Phillips coming out on top with a height of
1.88m. Limestone's Richard Gore took second with the same height,
and St. Andrews' Cameron Cofield finished third with a height of
1.83m.
In the men's pole vault, Lees-McRae's Jon Arthur and Ryan Oakes
finished one and two respectively with a height of 4.25m.
Limestone's Justin Guinn took third with a height of 1.85m.
