J.D. McCray,
Caleb Eidson, and
Carson Cross were all double-winners, with McCray also swimming a leg of the winning 800-free relay team, as the Lees-McRae men's swimming team defeated "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" and Conference Carolinas rival King, 137-52, in the program's first-ever home meet this afternoon.
THE BASICS
MEN'S RESULTS: Lees-McRae – 137; King - 52
LOCATION: Watauga County Parks and Recreation – Boone, North Carolina
MEN'S NOTABLES:
- The Lees-McRae men's swimming team won 10 of 11 total events to clinch the win in the dual meet.
- McCray won the 200 free (1:46.32) and the 500 free (4:57.00), while also teaming up with Chase Davis, Nathan Higdon, and Cooper Hoagland to win the 800-free relay with a time of 7:22.87.
- Eidson touched first in both the 50 free (21.64) and in the 100 free (47.69), while Cross won the 100 fly (55.55) and 100 breast (1:00.45).
- Davis also clinched the victory in the 100 back (54.14), while Higdon won the 100 back (2:02.44).
NOTEWORTHY:
- This marks the first time that the Lees-McRae men's swimming team has defeated their rivals from King.
FROM THE COACHES:
- "The goal for this weekend was improving upon last weekend's swim at the King Invite. The team did just that and much more. We had some outstanding swims in our first home competition ever. We had one school record break in the 200 free by Tate Abbott with a time of 1:57, amongst several other personal records throughout the meet with Carson Cross having two PRs in the 100 fly and 50 free. I am really looking forward to our next meet in a week to see more improvements. Thank you to the Watauga County Park and Recreation and Interim Aquatics Director Kyle Disney for hosting our first home meet in a terrific facility and putting on a flawless meet"
