Four Bobcats score in double figures as Women’s Basketball clinches 65-60 win over Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C.Jala Holloman, Malikah Meyers, Destiny Johnson, and MaKayla Smith all scored in double figures, while Meyers and Johnson also combined for 15 rebounds and four assists, as the Lees-McRae women's basketball team held off a late rally by Southern Wesleyan to clinch a 65-60 road victory in the Conference Carolinas action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Holloman shot 6 of 14 from the field and 3 of 4 from the charity stripe to finish with a team-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
  • Meyers shot 2 of 2 from distance en route to 12 points, while also tallying seven rebounds, two assists, and a block.
  • Johnson and Smith both finished with 11 points and combined for 12 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.
  • Both teams traded points for the majority of the first 10 minutes of action, until a late layup by Jessica Henderson gave the Bobcats an early 14-13 lead.
  • Lees-McRae outscored the Warriors 16-8 in the second stanza to hold a 30-21 halftime lead.
  • After the Bobcats extended the lead to double-digits in the opening minutes of the second half, Southern Wesleyan closed the gap to five points at the final intermission.
  • Lees-McRae extended the lead back to 60-48 with four minutes left in the contest on a three-point field goal by Johnson.
  • The Bobcats held off a late Warriors rally by going 5 of 6 from the charity stripe in the final 31 seconds to clinch the conference win.
  • Lees-McRae held a 21-18 edge in points off turnovers, a 14-5 advantage in second-chance points, and outscored the Warriors 12-7 on the fast break.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Brittany Mack finished with 17 points and eight rebounds to pace the Warriors, while Allie Newberry chipped in 15 points.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcat will return to the McNair & Debi Tornow Court on Friday, Feb. 4 as they host Francis Marion in a 5 p.m. Conference Carolinas contest.
