Softball wins game two, splits non-conference twin bill with Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. – Hannah Foster, Lauren Ritchie, and Megan Powell all finished with multiple hits in game two, while Jada Wilson did not allow an earned run on two hits in seven innings, to lead the Lees-McRae softball team to a 4-1 victory in the later game to clinch the non-conference twin bill split at Emory & Henry this afternoon. The Bobcats fell short in game one by a 10-3 score.
 
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Emory & Henry – 10; Lees-McRae – 3   
LOCATION: Wasps Field – Emory, Virginia
RECORDS: Emory & Henry (4-1), Lees-McRae (3-6)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Powell and Rylie Webster both went 2 for 3 from the plate with an RBI, while Ritchie went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
  • Jordyn Scott and Julie Gast both hit doubles, while Emma Jackson also collected a hit.
  • Both pitchers were locked in a pitching dual for the first four innings until the Bobcats broke the deadlock as Webster singled through the left side to score Scott.
  • Emory & Henry responded with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the 3-1 advantage.
  • Lees-McRae used RBI singles by Ritchie and Powell on back-to-back at-bats to even the score at 3-3.
  • The Wasps used a seven-run bottom of the sixth inning to clinch the non-conference win.
  • Powell and Jenna Bullard surrendered nine earned runs on 12 hits in six innings of work.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Lydia Taylor went 3 for 4 from the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored to lead Emory & Henry.
  • Avery Adkins gave up three runs on eight hits in seven innings of work to be credited with the win in the circle.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Ritchie went 2 for 3 with a homerun and three runs scored, while Powell and Foster both finished 2 for 4 from the plate to lead the Bobcats in game two.
  • Gast, Scott, and Wilson all collected hits in game two and combined for three RBIs, with Aliyah Compton also adding a hit in the win.
  • After a scoreless first three innings, Lees-McRae opened up the scoring on an RBI double to right center by Wilson to score Ritchie to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the sixth as Ritchie connected on a lead-off solo homerun and Gast drew a walk that scored Jasmine Fong from third base.
  • Lees-McRae closed out their scoring in the top of the seventh as Scott singled down the right-field line that scored Ritchie to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead.
  • Emory & Henry scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Wilson gave up only one unearned run on two hits in seven innings of work for the Bobcats to clinch her second win of the season.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Two Wasps collected hits, while Melissa Dowdy gave up earned runs on six hits in five innings of work in the circle.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will travel to Gaffney, South Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 19 for a non-conference twin bill with Limestone starting at 12 p.m.
