J.D. Green,
Ian Kelbert, and the distance medley relay team of
Garrett Ybarra,
Jeff Nickerson,
Rien Freeman, and
Brennen Pierce, who also broke the school record, all garnered All-Conference Carolinas honors, while
Brian Sims Jr. broke the school record in the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash, to lead the Lees-McRae men's indoor track & field team on the opening day of the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships this evening.
THE BASICS
MEET: Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships
LOCATION: JDL Fast Track – Winston-Salem, North Carolina
MEN'S NOTABLES:
- Green finished third in the high jump competition with a mark of 1.98 meters to garner All-Conference Carolinas honors.
- Kelbert crossed third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15.17.57 to garner All-Conference Carolinas honors, which was only four seconds off the school record.
- The Lees-McRae distance team of Ybarra, Nickerson, Freeman, and Pierce finished third with a time of 10:33.83, which broke the school record of 10:37.21 set at last year's championship meet.
- Max Geckler crossed 11th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:49.35, while Green was 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.93.
- Sims Jr. posted the fastest time in the 400-meter dash preliminary round (48.48), which broke the school record of 48.91 set back in 2008, to set himself up for the final round on Monday.
- Christian Bargaineer and Jean Origene finished with the second-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary round (8.68) and third-fastest time in the 60-meter dash preliminary round (6.92) to set themselves up for the final round on Monday.
