Hill's Buzzer-Beater Lifts Women's Basketball to 80-77 at Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – Aleysha Hill buried a three-pointer at the buzzer as Lees-McRae women's basketball defeated Southern Wesleyan, 80-77, in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon. Hill and Leah Barringer combined for 40 points for the Bobcats in today's contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Makayla Raines of SWU tied the game at 77 points with 20 seconds left in regulation. The Bobcats calmly got the ball in their offensive half and Hill knocked in the game-winner at the buzzer for the win.
  • Barringer collected a layup with 7:41 left in the first quarter as Lees-McRae led 9-4, but Southern Wesleyan regained the lead and held the five-point advantage at the end of the first 10 minutes.
  • Lees-McRae started on a 8-0 run in the second quarter and led 25-22. The Bobcats built a five-point lead on a free-throw make from Emily Barr. The two sides were even throughout the remaining five minutes of the second half before the Warriors led 40-38 at the break.
  • Lees-McRae and Southern Wesleyan continued to trade the lead in the second half as SWU led by one point at the end of the third.
  • The Warriors pushed their lead to eight points with 4:50 remaining in the fourth, but the Bobcats were resilient and led by one a minute later.
  • Layla Tillery connected on a jumper with 1:42 remaining in the game and Barringer gave the Bobcats the four-point advantage. SWU tied the game on a layup from Raines, but Hill quieted the home crowd with the buzzer-beater.
  • Hill matched Barringer with 20 points on 6-12 shooting and added three rebounds and two assists. Barringer went 7-12 from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.
  • Shayne Burton and Nadiya Hairston collected seven points apiece in today's win. Tillery contributed six points off the bench. 
  • In her season debut, Barr had six points, nine rebounds, and one assist in 15 minutes for Lees-McRae.

FOR THE WARRIORS:
  • Raines and Dynasty Shegog had 18 points each for the Warriors. Taylin Smith rounded out the scorers in double figures for SWU with 17.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae women's basketball heads to Spartanburg, South Carolina next Saturday for a Conference Carolinas clash with Converse at 2 p.m.
