SALISBURY, N.C. – Lees-McRae softball used a five-run sixth inning in the opening game of the day to earn the 11-1 victory over Shippensburg, before falling to Catawba, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Lonna Addison combined for 19 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched for the Bobcats.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 11; Shippensburg – 1
LOCATION: Whitley Field – Salisbury, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (1-2), Newberry (0-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hannah Foster singled to left field to begin the contest with Shippensburg and moved to scoring position via a sacrifice bunt from Taylor Beurrier. Foster scored on a Lauren Ritchie single and the Bobcats plated two more runs in the top of the first off a two RBI single from Allie Johnston.
- Lees-McRae continued its offensive dominance in the game with three more runs in the third. Lonna Addison singled to the outfield and Destiny Brown and Johnston scored on the play. Foster tacked on another run at 6-0 for the Bobcats with a single to right field.
- Shippensburg pushed across one run in the bottom of fifth, but the sixth inning proved vital in the Bobcats' win.
- Ritchie started the sixth with a double to right field and McKenzie Presson followed with a double to the left center gap and scored Ritchie on the play. Johnston broke the game open with a three RBI single that scored Brown, Brooks Eaddy, and Presson. Johnston touched home plate on a RBI single from Foster to make the score 11-1 in favor of Lees-McRae.
- Lonna Addison shut the door on the Raiders in the sixth inning as the Bobcats prevailed 11-1 on Saturday afternoon. Addison earned the victory after going four full innings and striking out nine while surrendering one run (zero earned) on three hits and one walk.
- Foster and Johnston led the way for the Bobcats at the plate with three hits apiece and Johnston had five RBIs in the game. Eaddye and Ritchie joined their fellow teammates with two hits apiece.
FOR THE RAIDERS:
- Kaira Zamadics was given the loss for Shippensburg after allowing three runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 1; Catawba – 4
LOCATION: Whitley Field – Salisbury, North Carolina
RECORDS: Catawba (7-5); Lees-McRae (1-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Catawba used a three-run first inning to collect the 4-1 win over Lees-McRae in the second game of the day for both squads.
- Presson got the Bobcats their lone run of the contest with a solo home run over the right field wall.
- Addison suffered the loss after going six innings and allowing one run (one earned) on four hits and one walk. Addison struck 10 Catawba hitters on the day.
- Beurrier had two hits in three plate appearances for Lees-McRae. Addison, Foster, Johnston, and Presson all recorded one hit each in the game.
FOR THE INDIANS:
- Riley Tucker earned the win for Catawba while going four innings and only allowing one run (one earned) on six hits and one strikeout. Alexandra Baquie collected the save with three innings pitched for the Indians.
