Softball Falls Short to Limestone in Doubleheader on Sunday

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Lees-McRae softball freshman Lonna Addison collected a new season-high in strikeouts with 14 in the second game of today's doubleheader, but Limestone earned both games on their home field.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Limestone – 8; Lees-McRae – 0
LOCATION: Jimmy Martin Field – Gaffney, South Carolina
RECORDS: Limestone (11-4), Lees-McRae (3-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae fell to Limestone in Sunday's opening game, 8-0, after not collecting a hit in six innings. 
  • Limestone scored three runs in the fourth inning and ended the game with four runs in the sixth inning to register their 11th win of the season.
  • Morgan Crowe, McKenzie Presson, and Logan Zephir drew walks in the contest as Leah DiBello suffered the loss in the circle for the Bobcats after allowing four runs (one earned) on nine hits.

FOR THE LIMESTONE:
  • Chelsey Stonesifer picked up the no-hitter in the first game of the day after going six complete innings and surrendering three walks. Stonesifer is 6-0 on the season.
  • Tayler Jenkins had three hits to lead Limestone. Linsey Voorhese and Katie Wilbur contributed two hits apiece and two RBIs in the win.

GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Limestone – 3; Lees-McRae – 2  
LOCATION: Jimmy Martin Field –Gaffney, South Carolina
RECORDS: Limestone (12-4), Lees-McRae (3-7)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Addison tallied her second solid outing of the week after going seven innings and striking out a season-high 14 batters. Addison was dealt the loss after the Bobcats fell in extra innings, 3-2.
  • Addison got Lee-McRae on the board first with a RBI single that scored Hannah Foster in the first inning.
  • Limestone used back-to-back home runs in the second inning to take the lead, but Lees-McRae battled during the late stages of the game.
  • Foster doubled to left field as Morgan Crowe crossed home plate to even the contest at two runs.
  • Addison worked around a lead-off walk in the bottom of the seventh and struck out the side to force extras in Gaffney. 
  • Limestone ended the game with a walk-off single from Emma Wren in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Addison helped her cause in the circle with three hits on the day and Foster followed with two hits and one RBI.
FOR THE SAINTS:
  • Breanna Clayton secured the win for Limestone in the circle after going eight innings and striking out eight while scattering eight hits over the eight frames.
  • Santana Anderson, Abigail Price, and Wren each registered a hit in the second game of the doubleheader.
 
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae heads to Augusta, Georgia for a doubleheader with Augusta on Monday, March 4 starting at 1 p.m.
