BANNER ELK, N.C. – Lees-McRae College Head Skiing & Snowboarding Coach
Aaron Maas was recognized as the 2024 U.S. Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association Coach of the Year.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to be this year's Coach of the Year award recipient," said Maas. "There are many coaches deserving of this honor, so to be the one chosen amongst such an impressive field is truly special."
In April, Lees-McRae College Athletics announced that skiing/snowboarding would become the college's newest varsity sport. The Bobcats earned their 10th National Title this past winter in Lake Placid, New York.
Maas and the Lees-McRae Ski & Snowboard earned four National Championships in March in Lake Placid, New York at the U.S. Collegiate Ski & Snowboard National Championships. The Bobcats took home the titles in the Men's Snowboard Boarder Cross, Slalom, Men's Alpine Team Combined, and Women's Alpine Team Combined.
"I couldn't have made it to this point without the support of Lees-McRae College, our wonderful community, and especially the effort of our student-athletes," added Maas. "With everybody's help we were able to earn our 10th National Title and become a varsity sport this year. The USCSA organization does a great job providing the framework to make this all possible. I'll continue to do everything I can to help grow the sport in the Southeast."
