Women's Basketball Suffers 72-66 Loss at North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – North Greenville overcame a seven-point first quarter deficit to earn the 72-66 win over Lees-McRae women's basketball on Wednesday afternoon. Nadiya Hairston led the Bobcats in scoring with 18 points in 38 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Hairston opened the scoring on a fastbreak layup and Sandra Mason knocked down a three-pointer to give the Bobcats the 5-2 lead. Layla Tillery added to the Bobcat lead with a layup and Lees-McRae led 17-10 after the first 10 minutes.
  • Mason opened the second quarter with a triple, but North Greenville cut the deficit to one off of two free throws from Maliyiah Mason. Kirsten Watt connected on a layup with 52 seconds left as Lees-McRae held the 31-28 advantage at the halftime break.
  • NGU took a 37-34 lead after a three-pointer from Ja'Mari Frederick. Lees-McRae regained the lead at 47-44 off a three-pointer from Leah Barringer and the Bobcats held the two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • NGU regained advantage after a 6-0 scoring run to start the fourth quarter. The Bobcats built a three-point advantage via free-throw makes from Emily Barr at 58-55.
  • The Trailblazers gained the lead once more at 62-61 with 3:56 left to play in the fourth quarter and NGU earned the 72-66 win inside Hayes Gymnasium.
  • Hairston had a game-high 18 points on 7-15 shooting for the Bobcats. Mason followed with 11 points and Kirsten Watt joined Mason with 11 points on the day. Barringer rounded out the Bobcats in double-digit scoring with 10 points off the bench.
  • NGU's Mason had 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Trailblazers. Tabitha Littlefield collected 16 points in 18 minutes off the bench.

Lees-McRae women's basketball hosts Young Harris on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. on the McNair & Debi Tornow Court. The Bobcats will recognize Leah Barringer, Emily Barr, and Thailand Smith prior to the game as part of Senior Day festivities.
