MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball earned its first win of the season with a 11-3 victory in the second game of today's doubleheader at Mars Hill.
Allie Johnston went 3-5 from the plate today with four runs batted in and one run scored for the Bobcats.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Mars Hill – 15; Lees-McRae – 1 F/5
LOCATION: Ponder Field – Mars Hill, North Carolina
RECORDS: Mars Hill (6-5), Lees-McRae (0-9)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Mars Hill plated four runs in the first inning and 10 runs in the second inning en route to the 15-1 win in the first game.
- Rylee Konowalchuk scored on a RBI groundout from Avery Walston in the third inning for Lees-McRae.
- Destiny Brown, McKenzie Presson, and Johnston tallied hits in the first game of the doubleheader.
- Sara Rexrode led the Lions with three hits and four RBIs. Maia Sholter contributed four RBIs in the contest for Mars Hill. Mars Hill's Tea Cornett earned the victory in the circle after striking out six in five complete innings.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 11; Mars Hill – 3
LOCATION: Ponder Field– Mars Hill, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (1-9), Mars Hill (6-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae flipped the script in the second game of the doubleheader with a 11-3 win over Mars Hill.
- Johnston led the Bobcats with four RBIs and three coming off a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Taylor Beurrier and Konowalchuk joined Johnston with home runs in the contest.
- Beurrier and Konowalchuk added two hits apiece and three RBIs in the win for the Bobcats.
- Ellie Hale claimed the win in the circle for Lees-McRae after a complete-game win. Hale collected seven strikeouts and only surrendered three runs (three earned) on eight hits and zero walks.
- Meghan Murphy led Mars Hill with two RBIs and Brooke Hanson contributed one RBI in the loss for the Lions.
