Softball Drops Doubleheader to Anderson on Saturday Afternoon

ANDERSON, S.C. – Allie Johnston extended her hit streak to eight consecutive games this afternoon, but the Lees-McRae softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader at Anderson.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Anderson – 6; Lees-McRae – 0
LOCATION: AU Softball Complex – Anderson, South Carolina
RECORDS: Anderson (9-6), Lees-McRae (1-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Anderson scored four runs in the fifth inning for its 6-0 win over Lees-McRae in the first game of the twin bill.
  • Johnston, Taylor Beurrier, Destiny Brown and Abby Hatley collected one hit apiece in the first game McKenzie Presson drew two walks in three plate appearances for the Bobcats.

GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Anderson – 6; Lees-McRae – 5
LOCATION: AU Softball Complex – Anderson, South Carolina
RECORDS: Anderson (10-6), Lees-McRae (1-11)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae gained the 5-1 lead in the third inning of the second game. Beurrier plated Morgan Crowe with a single up the middle and Hatley scored on a fielder's choice from Presson. Rylee Konowalchuk made the score 3-1 with a single to center field.
  • Brittany Gingrich kept the inning going with a RBI single up the middle and Avery Walston recorded a RBI groundout for the fifth run of the inning.
  • Anderson battled with four runs in the fourth inning and the go-ahead run in the fifth frame for the 6-5 win on Saturday afternoon.
  • Konowalcuk delivered three hits and one RBI for the Bobcats. Seven Bobcats had one hit apiece.
  • Ellie Hale suffered the loss after going 0.2 innings pitched on Saturday while allowing three runs (three earned) on two hits and one walk.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae faces Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday, February 25 at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader in Hickory.
