Softball Battles Lenoir-Rhyne in Midweek Doubleheader

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team battled Lenoir-Rhyne in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, but the Bobcats fell to the Bears in both contests in Hickory.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lenoir-Rhyne – 5; Lees-McRae – 4
LOCATION: Shena Hollar Field – Hickory, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lenoir-Rhyne (6-9), Lees-McRae (1-12)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Avery Kiger hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift Lenoir-Rhyne to the 5-4 win in the first game of today's doubleheader.
  • McKenzie Presson gave the Bobcats the 1-0 lead in the first with a RBI single and Abby Hatley scored the run. Allie Johnston doubled the lead for Lees-McRae in the second frame with an RBI single to the right field.
  • The Bobcats tacked on two more runs in the sixth after Rylee Konowalchuk and Brittany Gingrich scored on fielding errors from the Bears.
  • Lenoir-Rhyne recorded three runs in the final two innings for the 5-4 win on its home field.
  • Ellie Hale went six innings of work for Lees-McRae and allowed four runs (four earned) on nine hits and struck out four batters.
  • Taylor Beurrier and Gingrich led the Bobcats with two hits apiece. Johnston and Presson added one RBI apiece in the first game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lenoir-Rhyne used 11 runs in the fourth inning to collect the 14-1 win over Lees-McRae in the second game of the day.
  • Hatley scored the lone run for the Bobcats on a wild pitch and Beurrier recorded one hit in the contest.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae heads to Wise, Virginia on Friday for games against Mansfield and UVA Wise starting at 2 p.m.
