WISE, Va. – The Lees-McRae softball team secured two wins on Friday afternoon with a 12-2 win over Mansfield in its first game and a 4-1 win over UVA Wise.
Ellie Hale and
Hayley Lawing picked up complete games in their respective outings.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 12; Mansfield – 2 F/6
LOCATION: Gatton Field – Wise, Virginia
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (2-13), Mansfield (0-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae used six runs in the fifth innings to defeat Mansfield, 12-2, in six innings on Friday afternoon. Morgan Crowe, Brittany Gingrich, Allie Johnston, and Rylee Konowalchuk led the Bobcats with two hits apiece.
- Konowalchuk scored on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning and Johnston followed with an RBI single. Abby Hatley recorded an RBI groundout to complete the three-run inning in the second.
- The Bobcats plated six runs in the fifth inning for the 9-2 advantage over the Mounties. Johnston recorded a two RBI single that scored Crowe and Gingrich on the play.
- Konowalchuk doubled in the sixth and Brooke Bennett scored on the play. Gingrich tallied a RBI single to center field and Brooks Eaddy registered a RBI double for the 12th run of the contest.
- Lawing earned her first victory of the season with a complete-game win in the circle. Lawing registered three strikeouts and surrendered two runs (two earned) on eight hits.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 4; UVA Wise – 1
LOCATION: Gatton Field – Wise, Virginia
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (3-13), UVA Wise (9-6)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lees-McRae scored four runs and used a complete-game effort from Hale in the circle for the 4-1 victory over hosts, UVA Wise.
- Hatley got the Bobcats on the board with a single to the outfield and Avery Walston scored on the play. Taylor Beurrier sent a two RBI triple the following batter as the Bobcats led 3-0. Beurrier scored on a fielding error from the Cavaliers to make the score, 4-0.
- Hale shut down the bats of UVA Wise throughout the contest as she threw seven complete innings and allowed one run (one earned) on four hits and four strikeouts.
- Johnston led the Bobcats at the plate with two hits in four plate appearances. Beurrier recorded two RBIs on the day.
