Softball Splits Saturday's Contests at UVA Wise

WISE, Va. – The Lees-McRae softball team returned to the diamond on Saturday and went 1-1 on the day with an 8-0 win over Virginia Union and a 3-1 loss to Mansfield.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Mansfield– 3; Mansfield – 1
LOCATION: Gatton Field – Wise, Virginia
RECORDS: Mansfield (1-2), Lees-McRae (3-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mansfield scored two runs in the second inning and collected the 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon on the campus of UVA Wise.
  • Avery Walston scored the lone run for the Bobcats off a wild pitch.
  • Abby Hatley went 3-4 from the plate to lead Lees-McRae and Taylor Beurrier recorded two hits in the game.
  • Ellie Hale went four innings in the start and allowed two runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks. Hale suffered the loss in the circle for the Bobcats.

FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 8; Virginia Union – 0 F/5
LOCATION: Gatton Field – Wise, Virginia
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (4-14), Virginia Union (1-8)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae bounced back in the second game of the day with a 8-0 win over Virginia Union.
  • The Bobcats used seven runs over the first three innings and added the eighth run in the fifth frame.
  • McKenzie Presson started the scoring with an RBI double that scored Hatley. Rylee Konowalchuk followed with an RBI double that scored Presson.
  • In the second inning,  Hatley and Walston scored on a throwing error by Virginia Union for the 4-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats tacked on three runs in the third frame and took the contest in five innings off an RBI double from Kierstin Kemper.
  • Hayley Lawing earned her third win of the season with five innings and scattering three hits in the outing.

Lees-McRae makes its way to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday, March 8 for games against West Virginia State.
