BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae softball team fell to Conference Carolinas foe King in both games of today's doubleheader in Bristol, Tennessee.
Abby Hatley and
Rylee Konowalchuk had two hits in the second game for the Bobcats.
Logan Zephir threw six innings over the two games in relief and only allowed one run in the two contests.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King – 4; Lees-McRae – 0
LOCATION: King Softball Field – Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: King (14-9/3-0), Lees-McRae (6-19/0-3)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- King took the lead with two runs in the first inning and led 3-0 after two complete innings. The Tornado tacked on one more run in the fourth for the 4-0 advantage.
- Konowalchuk notched the first hit of the game for Lees-McRae in the seventh.
- Hayley Lawing went four innings in the start for the Bobcats while surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks.
- Kaylee Meek earned the win in the circle for the Tornado and King took a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King – 4; Lees-McRae – 1
LOCATION: King Softball Field – Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: King (15-9/4-0), Lees-McRae (6-20/0-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hatley sent a one-out single up the middle in the first, but was thrown out at second after trying to steal the base.
- King took the lead with an RBI double from Rachel Jardim in the bottom of the first. The Tornado added two more runs in the third for 3-0 advantage.
- Brittany Gingrich led off the fourth inning with a walk, but was taken off the base paths after a fielder's choice by Taylor Beurrier. Beurrier stole second and advanced to third on a groundout from McKenzie Presson. Beurrier was able to score off a wild pitch from King's pitcher.
- King collected one more run in the sixth inning for the 4-1 lead and kept Lees-McRae off the board in the seventh for the 4-1 win in the second game.
- Ellie Hale suffered the loss in the circle for Lees-McRae after going two innings and allowing three runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk. Zephir threw four complete innings and allowed one run (one earned) on two hits and striking out three batters.
- Hatley and Konowalchuk paced the Bobcats with two hits apiece. Beurrier, Morgan Crowe, and Allie Johnston recorded one hit each in the second game of the day.

Lees-McRae plays Chowan on Friday afternoon in the Bobcats' home opener in Banner Elk at 1 p.m.
