Softball Falls Short to Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas Doubleheader

BELMONT, N.C. – Rylee Konowalchuk had six hits and four RBIs across two games today for Lees-McRae softball, but the Bobcats fell to Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Belmont Abbey – 12; Lees-McRae – 8
LOCATION: Crusader Field – Belmont, North Carolina
RECORDS: Belmont Abbey (15-14/2-5), Lees (6-23/0-7)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Konowalchuk gave the Bobcats the three-run lead in the top of the first inning with a three-run home run.
  • Belmont Abbey tied the contest at three runs and led 11-3 after four innings.
  • Allie Johnston led the fifth inning off with a solo home run and Brooks Eaddy brought home Kierstin Kemper on a double to right field.
  • Avery Walston cut the deficit to five runs with a solo home run and Ashleigh Drake followed a home run. Abby Hatley scored on an RBI single from Johnston in the top of the sixth for the 11-8 deficit.
  • Belmont Abbey made the score 12-8 in the bottom of the sixth and held Lees-McRae scoreless for the 12-8 win on Crusader Field.
  • Johnston and Konowalchuk tallied three hits apiece in the game. Hatley followed with two hits in five at-bats. Taylor Beurrier and Drake collected two hits each for the Bobcats.
  • Ellie Hale took the loss in the circle for Lees-McRae after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and one walk in two and one-thirds innings pitched.

FINAL SCORE: Belmont Abbey – 10; Lees-McRae – 5
LOCATION: Crusader Field – Belmont, North Carolina
RECORDS: Belmont Abbey (16-14/3-5), Lees-McRae (6-24/0-8)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae jumped out to a 2-0 lead off a two-run home run via Beurrier in the first inning.
  • Belmont Abbey gained the lead at 3-2 with three runs in the bottom of the second.
  • The Bobcats battled back with three runs in the third after a Konowalchuk RBI single. Beurrier scored on a wild pitch to follow and Eaddy singled in Konowalchuk to make the score 5-3 in favor of Lees-McRae.
  • Belmont Abbey took the contest with seven total runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the 10-5 Conference Carolinas win.
  • Kononwalcuk led the Bobcats with three hits. Beurrier and Johnston followed with two hits apiece.
  • Hayley Lawing went the distance in the circle for Lees-McRae and allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and two walks.
