Softball Falls to Converse in Conference Carolinas Doubleheader

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team returned to the diamond on Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader with Converse at Tyger River Stadium. The Valkyries took both contests on the day.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Converse – 11, Lees-McRae – 3 F/5
LOCATION: Tyger River Stadium – Spartanburg, South Carolina
RECORDS: Converse (17-26/9-10), Lees-McRae (7-32/1-16)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Taylor Beurrier hit a RBI double down the left field line and Brittany Gingrich touched home plate for the 1-0 lead in the top of first inning.
  • Converse registered five runs in the bottom of the first and led 8-1 after four innings.
  • Avery Walston hit a double to the left field wall and Morgan Crowe scored on the play. Allie Johnston recorded an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth as Lees-McRae trailed 8-3.
  • The Valkyries scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 11-3 win.
  • Beurrier, Crowe, Abby Hatley, Johnston, and Walston each had one hit on the day. Beurrier, Johnston, and Walston recorded RBIs in the first game of the doubleheader.

FINAL SCORE: Converse – 11, Lees-McRae – 2 F/6
LOCATION: Tyger River Stadium – Spartanburg, South Carolina
RECORDS: Converse (18-26/10-10), Lees-McRae (7-33/1-17)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Valkyries led 6-0 after the first two innings of the second game of today's doubleheader.
  • Beurrier homered over the left-field fence for the first run of the game for the Bobcats. Jorden Clark tacked on the second run of the contest with a solo home run in the fourth for Lees-McRae.
  • Converse earned the 11-2 win at Tyger River Stadium.
  • Jorden Clark had two hits on the day to lead the Bobcats at the plate. Rylee Konowalchuk added the other hit for the Bobcats.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae hosts Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, April at 1 p.m. for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader.
