BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team combined for 20 runs in the Bobcats' doubleheader sweep of Belmont Abbey on Tuesday afternoon.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 13, Belmont Abbey – 4 F/5
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (8-33/2-17), Belmont Abbey (20-23/7-14)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Brooks Eaddy gave the Bobcats the 3-1 advantage off a three-run home run over the left-field fence in the first inning.
- Avery Walston carried the momentum into the second inning with a solo home run. Allie Johnston drove in Destiny Brown off a groundout as Lees-McRae led 5-1.
- Belmont Abbey cut the deficit to one run in the third after a three-run inning.
- Walston reached on a fielder's choice and three Bobcats scored on the play after a throwing error from Belmont Abbey. The Bobcats led 9-4 after Walston scored on a wild pitch.
- Taylor Beurrier tacked on two more runs with a two-run home run in the fourth and Eaddy followed two batters later with a two-run home run for the 13-4 advantage.
- Dayna Patten shut the door on the Crusader bats after a two-out single in the fifth for the 13-4 win.
- Eaddy led the Bobcats with five RBIs on three hits and three runs in the contest. Rylee Konowalchuk joined Eaddy with three hits on the day. Beurrier had two RBIs off her two-run home run.
- Logan Zephir recorded the win in the circle after throwing three complete innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and two strikeouts. Patten went two innings of relief and only allowed two hits and two walks.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 7, Belmont Abbey – 6
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (9-33/3-17), Belmont Abbey (20-24/7-15)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Konowalchuk collected an RBI single to center field as Lees-McRae led 1-0 after the first frame.
- Belmont Abbey gained the lead with four runs in the top of the second inning.
- Johnston got the Bobcats within one run after a two-run home run in the bottom of the second. Destiny Brown scored on the play after reaching base via a hit by pitch.
- Konowalchuk tied the contest at four runs after scoring on a throwing error by the Crusaders in the third inning.
- Lees-McRae regained the lead once again in the fourth after Johnston hit her second home run of the game. Eaddy delivered a two-out single and drove Beurrier and Kierstin Kemper for the 7-5 lead.
- Belmont Abbey scored one run in the seventh inning, but Zephir closed the deal in the seventh for her first save of the season.
- Jaden Clark picked up the win in the circle for the Bobcats after going three innings of relief and striking out two.
