Softball Finishes Home Slate with Conference Carolinas Doubleheader against King

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Destiny Brown recorded two home runs in today's doubleheader against King, but Lees-McRae softball fell to the Tornado in both games on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King – 23, Lees-McRae – 3 F/5
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: King (27-22/14-9), Lees-McRae (9-34/3-18)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Tornado scored 11 runs over the first three innings and registered 12 runs in the fifth inning for the 23-3 win.
  • Destiny Brown collected a solo home run in the third inning and Sarah Rudd homered in the fifth for the Bobcats' three runs.
  • Taylor Beurrier, Ashleigh Drake, Brittany Gingrich, and Allie Johnston joined Brown and Rudd with hits in the first game of the doubleheader.
  • Rachel Jardim led the Tornado with five RBIs off four hits and scored four runs. Sophia Waters earned the win in the circle after going five complete innings and allowing three runs (three earned) on six hits.

GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King – 8, Lees-McRae – 4
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: King (28-22/15-9), Lees-McRae (9-35/3-19)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • King opened the second game of the day with six runs over the first three innings for the 6-0 advantage.
  • Lees-McRae cut the deficit to 6-1 after Abby Hatley scored in the sixth inning.
  • The Tornado pushed their lead to seven runs after plating two in the seventh inning.
  • The Bobcats started a rally in the seventh as Brown hit a three-run home run. Hatley followed with a single, but the Bobcats fell 8-4 in their home finale.
  • Brown's two home runs were the first of her career at Lees-McRae.
  • Ellie Hale suffered the loss in the circle for the Bobcats after allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits in two innings pitched. Jaden Clark three four and one-thirds innings in a relief appearance.
  • Johnston had a multi-hit game with two hits in her four at-bats. Hatley drew two walks for the Bobcats.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae concludes the regular season with a league doubleheader at Chowan on Friday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
