Softball Honors Bennett, Crowe, Konowalchuk, and Presson on Senior Day

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team celebrated seniors Brooke Bennett, Morgan Crowe, Rylee Konowalchuk, and McKenzie Presson prior to today's Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader against UNC Pembroke.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: UNC Pembroke – 13, Lees-McRae – 3 F/6
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: UNCP (21-21/12-5), Lees-McRae (7-30/1-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • UNCP led 4-0 before Konowalchuk sent a home run over the left-field fence to cut the lead to 4-1.
  • Lees-McRae made the score 5-3 in favor of the Braves after RBI singles from Taylor Beurrier and Allie Johnston.
  • UNC Pembroke broke the game open with seven runs in the sixth inning and won 13-3 on Bobcat Field.
  • Johnston and Avery Walston registered two hits each for the Bobcats. Beurrier, Gingrich, Konowalcuk, and Presson added one hit apiece.
  • Logan Zephir recorded the loss in the circle for Lees-McRae after allowing four runs (four earned) on two hits and two walks in one and one-third innings pitched on the afternoon.

RECORDS: UNC Pembroke (22-21/13-5), Lees-McRae (7-31/1-15)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Abby Hatley scored for the Bobcats in the bottom of the first off a wild pitch and Konowalchuk tallied an RBI groundout that scored Gingrich on the play.
  • UNCP held the 7-2 advantage, but Konowalchuk collected an RBI double in the bottom of the third.
  • The Braves used six runs across the fourth and fifth innings of today's second game for the 13-4 win in five innings.
  • Ashleigh Drake, Konowalcuk, Alyssa Prather, and Presson all had one hit each for Lees-McRae. Konowalchuk registered two RBIs in the contest.
  • Beurrier ended her hit streak at nine games after one hit in the opening game of the day. She extended her on-base streak to 14 games that dates back to March 18 at King.

UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae concludes its homestand on Tuesday, April 8 with a league doubleheader against Belmont Abbey starting at 1 p.m.
