Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Downs CUI in Knoxville, 11-9

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On a rainy Sunday afternoon in Knoxville, Lees-McRae men's lacrosse defeated Concordia University Irvine, 11-9. Cole Morris led the Bobcats with five goals and two assists in today's win.

RECORDS: Lees-McRae (2-3); CUI (1-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae evened the score at 1-1 with a goal from Morris at the 7:38 mark of the first quarter. Matthias Oslund tied the contest again at 2-2 with a goal at the 4:32 mark and the Bobcats gained the lead with goals from Gignac and Cole Cameron.
  • CUI knotted the game at 4-4 with goals from Jeremy Barnes and a man-up goal from John DiGulio.
  • The Bobcats moved the momentum back in their favor with consecutive goals from Adam Ross and Morris. Lees-McRae led 6-4 at the halftime break.
  • The Golden Eagles tallied their fifth and sixth goals of the day to start the third quarter, but Lees-McRae stopped the scoring with three straight goals of their own. The Bobcats held the 9-6 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
  • Morris recorded his fifth goal of the day with 12:11 remaining in regulation and Zack Gignac pushed the game out of reach with the final goal at 11-9 for the Bobcats.
  • Zack Gignac followed Morris' seven-point performance with a hat trick and one assist today. Cameron, Oslund, and Ross finished the game with one goal each.
  • Alex Epple registered 17 saves and seven ground balls in his goalkeeper position for the Bobcats. Cam Domanowski and Dryden Murrell finished the contest with two caused turnovers. Bennett Gibbons and Kyler Donahue recorded six faceoff wins apiece.
