Softball Falls to King in "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" Doubleheader

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae softball team fell to "Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup" foe King in two games this afternoon in Bristol, Tennessee. 

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King – 9, Lees-McRae – 1 F/6
LOCATION: King Softball Field – Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: King (14-13/2-3); Lees-McRae (7-11/1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • King scored the first sevens of the game for the 9-1 win in six innings over Lees-McRae this afternoon.
  • Avery Walston scored in the sixth inning off an error from King's infield.
  • Allie Johnston recorded one hit and one walk for the Bobcats. Walston went 1-2 from the plate with a double.
  • Dayna Patten suffered the loss in the circle after allowing five runs (five earned) on four hits and one walk in the start. Haley Littrell went three full innings of relief and allowed two runs (two earned) on three hits and one walk.

FINAL SCORE: King – 10, Lees-McRae – 2 F/6
LOCATION: King Softball Field – Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: King (15-13/3-3); Lees-McRae (7-12/1-4)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Maycee Tickle hit an RBI triple in the sixth inning for the Bobcats' first run of the second game and Tickle scored on a throw to second for the second run.
  • King earned the win in six innings after scoring five runs in the sixth frame for the 10-2 advantage.
  • Johnston led the Bobcats with two hits in three plate appearances. Hatley and Tickle tallied one hit apiece. Walston drew two walks in her plate appearances.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae continues its six-game road trip to Belmont Abbey on Saturday, March 14 for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
