BANNER ELK, N.C. – Maycee Tickle combined for four hits over two games this afternoon, but the Lees-McRae softball team fell to Young Harris in Sunday's doubleheader.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Young Harris – 11, Lees-McRae – 8
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Young Harris (24-13/16-3); Lees-McRae (8-18/2-10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Young Harris started the scoring with six runs in the first inning. Lees-McRae battled back in the second inning with three runs.
- Haylea Huffines recorded an RBI double as Tickle scored on the play. Jorden Clark advanced Brooks Eaddy on an RBI groundout and Huffines scored after a wild throw in the second frame.
- The Mountain Lions pushed the lead back to five runs off a two RBI single from Shelby Duncan.
- Tickle answered in the bottom of third with an RBI double that scored Allie Johnston.
- Abby Hatley continued the momentum in the fourth inning with a single to right field and Johnston followed with a two RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to 8-7.
- Young Harris added two insurance runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh for the 11-7 lead.
- Tickle continued her strong performance at the plate with a solo home run for the final run of the first game. Tickle went 2-3 from the plate with two RBIs, two runs, and one walk. Johnston followed with two RBIs on one hit and one run scored.
- Haley Littrell was dealt the loss in the circle after surrendering six runs (six earned) on three hits and two walks in the start.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Young Harris – 8, Lees-McRae – 1
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Young Harris (25-13/17-3); Lees-McRae (8-19/2-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Young Harris jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off a two-run home run from Gracie Hughes.
- The Mountain Lions added six more runs in the final six frames for the 8-1 victory.
- Huffines registered an RBI groundout in the sixth frame for the lone run for the Bobcats.
- Taylor Beurrier and Tickle both went 2-3 from the plate.
- Ellie Hale went two full innings in the circle and allowed three runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk. Dayna Patten pitched two innings of relief and allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and two strikeouts.
