Softball Battles No. 13 Francis Marion on the Road

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team competed against the No. 13 Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas play this evening. The Bobcats fell to the Patriots in a pitcher's duel, 3-1, in the first game and dropped a 5-0 decision in the second contest.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: #13 Francis Marion – 3, Lees-McRae – 1
LOCATION: FMU Softball Field – Florence, South Carolina
RECORDS: No. 13 Francis Marion (34-10/18-5); Lees-McRae (9-23/3-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lees-McRae grabbed the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after a leadoff single from Taylor Beurrier. Beurrier advanced to second on a groundout from Abby Hatley and scored on an RBI single from Allie Johnston.
  • Francis Marion tied the contest at 1-1 with a two-out single from Madalyn White in the fourth inning.
  • The Patriots used a two-out double from Anderson Thrower in the sixth inning to gain the 3-1 advantage.
  • Ellie Hale tossed five innings in the start and allowed three runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks. Haley Littrell went one complete inning of relief and only allowed one hit.
  • Beurrier extended her hit streak to nine games in the opening game of the doubleheader. Beurrier went 1-3 from the plate. Hatley, Johnston, and Ellie Rudd joined Beurrier with one hit apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Beurrier started the second game with a single up the middle, but the Bobcats were unable to score in the first inning.
  • Francis Marion recorded two runs in the first and added two more runs in the second frame for the 4-0 lead. The Patriots tallied one more run in the fifth inning for the 5-0 margin.
  • Beurrier went 2-3 from the plate and Hatley followed with one hit in three plate appearances. Johnston collected a walk for the Bobcats.
  • Georgia McConnell was given the loss after going three innings in the start and allowed four runs (four earned) on six hits.
  • Francis Marion's Alyssa Poston threw a complete-game shutout and tallied five strikeouts in the win.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae travels to Mount Olive tomorrow afternoon for two games against the Trojans starting at 1 p.m.
