Softball Concludes Road Trip at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team concluded its road trip this afternoon as the Bobcats faced Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader. Mount Olive took both games by scores of 8-1 and 3-1.

GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Mount Olive – 8, Lees-McRae – 1
LOCATION: Nancy Chapman Cassell Field – Mount Olive, North Carolina
RECORDS: Mount Olive (25-22/14-11); Lees-McRae (9-25/3-17)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mount Olive scored the first five runs of the contest with three runs in third and added two more in the fifth inning.
  • Abby Hatley touched home plate on a sacrifice fly from Brooks Eaddy in the sixth inning.
  • The Trojans registered three more runs in the sixth and held the Bobcats scoreless in the seventh for the 8-1 game one victory.
  • Taylor Beurrier extended her on-base streak after collecting one walk in the game. Hatley went 1-2 from the plate with one walk and one run scored.
  • Logan Zephir threw three and two-thirds in the start and allowed three runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks. Emma Bigby went two and one-thirds in relief and allowed five runs (five earned) on eight hits.

FINAL SCORE: Mount Olive – 3, Lees-McRae – 1
LOCATION: FMU Softball Stadium – Mount Olive, North Carolina
RECORDS: Mount Olive (26-22/15-11); Lees-McRae (9-26/3-18)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mount Olive broke the scoreless contest in the fourth inning with two runs and recorded the 3-1 win for the series sweep.
  • Haylea Huffines recorded an RBI groundout in the seventh inning for the lone Bobcat run. 
  • Maycee Tickle went 2-3 from the plate and added a double to her season totals. Ellie Rudd joined her with an extra-base hit in the seventh inning.
  • Beurrier, Hatley, and Georgia McConnell tallied one hit each in the contest.
  • McConnell suffered the loss in the circle after throwing six complete innings and surrendered three runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks.
UP NEXT:
Lees-McRae hosts Belmont Abbey on Wednesday, April 14 for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
