Maycee Tickle had three hits apiece over two games in Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader for Lees-McRae against Belmont Abbey.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Belmont Abbey – 11, Lees-McRae – 2 F/6
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Belmont Abbey (22-21/14-11); Lees-McRae (9-27/3-19)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Belmont Abbey jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning.
- Tickle got the Bobcats on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single that scored Taylor Beurrier.
- Johnston recorded an RBI double in the third inning as Lees-McRae trailed by six runs.
- Belmont Abbey scored two more runs in the sixth inning and won 11-2 in six innings.
- Six Bobcats had one hit each in the first game of the doubleheader. Johnston and Tickle tallied one RBI apiece. Haylea Huffines drew one walk and registered one hit in the contest.
- Ellie Hale suffered in the loss in the circle after allowing four runs (four earned) in the start.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Belmont Abbey – 9, Lees-McRae – 5
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: Belmont Abbey (23-21/15-11); Lees-McRae (9-28/3-20)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Belmont Abbey started the second game with a three-run first inning.
- The Bobcats drew within one in the third after a solo home run from Johnston.
- Tickle gave the Bobcats the 5-3 advantage off a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
- Belmont Abbey scored three runs in the sixth inning and added three more runs in the seventh for the 9-5 victory.
- Johnston and Tickle led the Bobcats with two hits apiece. Johnston accumulated two RBIs and Tickle had three in the second game.
- Logan Zephir threw five and one-third innings in the start and allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks. Georgia McConnell was handed the loss after allowing four runs (zero earned) on four hits and two strikeouts.
