BANNER ELK, N.C. – Maycee Tickle tallied six total hits over two games this afternoon in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against King on Bobcat Field.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King– 10, Lees-McRae – 6
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: King (27-24/13-12); Lees-McRae (9-29/3-21)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- King opened the scoring in the first inning with two runs off a two RBI single from Giana Winge.
- Lees-McRae answered in the bottom of the second with a solo home run from Haylea Huffines. Taylor Beurrier hit a two RBI double to give the Bobcats the 3-2 lead.
- King tied the contest at three runs in the third and led 10-3 off a grand slam from Ella Richey.
- Lees-McRae battled in the seventh with Tickle scoring Beurrier on an RBI single. Huffines followed with a two RBI single that scored Tickle and Abby Hatley.
- Tickle led the Bobcats at the plate with three hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Beurrier, Hatley, and Huffines had two hits apiece. Huffines had three RBIs in the contest.
- Georgia McConnell went three full innings and allowed three runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks. Emma Bigby suffered the loss after giving up three runs (three earned) in one inning of relief.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King – 16, Lees-McRae – 9
LOCATION: Bobcat Field – Banner Elk, North Carolina
RECORDS: King (28-24/14-12); Lees-McRae (9-30/3-22)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- King jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Bobcats tied the game at 4-4 with four runs in the second frame.
- Tickle led off the inning with an infield single. Huffines advanced Tickle on a double. Brooks Eaddy loaded the bases with an infield single. Logan Zephir helped her cause with an RBI double that scored Huffines. Ellie Rudd tallied a two RBI single for the 4-3 margin. Destiny Brown tied the contest at four runs with a RBI groundout.
- King registered three more runs in the third and scored seven runs in the sixth for the 15-7 lead.
- Beurrier moved the margin back to six runs off a two-run home run in the sixth. Lees-McRae fell 16-9 to the Tornado.
- Huffines and Tickle registered three hits apiece in the second game of the doubleheader. Beurrier. Rudd, and Tickle all had two RBIs in the game.
- Logan Zephir went two full innings in the start and allowed seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits.
