FERRUM, Va. – Haylea Huffines notched six hits and six RBIs in today's doubleheader as the Lees-McRae softball team went 1-1 against Ferrum on VVK Field.
GAME #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Lees-McRae – 13, Ferrum – 3
LOCATION: VVK Field – Ferrum, Virginia
RECORDS: Lees-McRae (9-21/3-13); Ferrum (9-28/2-19)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bobcats got on the board first with an RBI groundout from Abby Hatley that scored Taylor Beurrier. Ellie Rudd drove in Huffines in the second inning for a 2-0 advantage.
- Lees-McRae registered three more runs in the third for the 5-0 lead. Huffines cleared the bases with a three RBI double. Ferrum moved the margin to 5-1 with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
- Huffines continued her strong day at the plate with a RBI single and Maycee Tickle scored on the play.
- Lees-McRae broke open the game in the seventh inning with six runs for the 13-3 lead. Ashleigh Drake tallied an RBI single that scored both Avery Walston and Jorden Clark. Allie Johnston collected a two RBI single and Brooks Eaddy registered a two RBI double for the 13-3 margin.
- Georgia McConnell went five and two-thirds innings in the start and allowed three runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks. McConnell earned her third win of the season in the circle. Charlotte Lowry went one and one-third innings pitched and only allowed one base runner in relief.
GAME #2 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Ferrum – 7, Lees-McRae – 5
LOCATION: VVK Field – Ferrum, Virginia
RECORDS: Ferrum (10-28/3-19); Lees-McRae (9-22/3-14)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ferrum used a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh for the 7-5 win over the Bobcats in the second game of today's doubleheader.
- Ferrum's Hannah Hooper opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first.
- Lees-McRae answered with five runs in the fourth inning. Huffines carried the momentum from the first game with a two RBI single up the middle to tie the contest. Kierstin Kemper sent an RBI double that scored Clark for the 3-2 lead. Ellie Rudd brought home Kemper and Walston off a two RBI double for the 5-2 advantage.
- Ferrum kept the Bobcats off the board the final three innings and Hannah Hooper gave the Panthers the 7-5 win off a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.
- Huffines went 2-3 from the plate in the second game with two RBIs. Ellie Rudd had two RBIs on one hit and Kemper tallied one RBI.
- Logan Zephir wetn four innings in today's start and allowed three runs (three earned) on four hits in the no decision. Emma Bigby was given the loss after allowing four runs (zero earned) in two and two-thirds innings of relief.
