Track & Field wraps up month of March with strong showing at the Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College track and field programs closed out the month of March with a strong showing at the Terrier Relays Friday and Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Overall, the Bobcats had four top five finishes and 13 top 10 finishes during the meet.

The men's team was led this weekend by the duo of Austin Thompson and Cooper Abernathy. Thompson posted the best finish of any Bobcat in Spartanburg finishing second in the 5000m run with a time of 15:36.48, which is a new personal-best for him in the event. Abernathy, meanwhile, led the men's squad in the field events collecting a third place finish in the javelin throw with a toss of 46.52m. Abernathy also competed in the Discus, Hammer Throw and Shot Put at the meet as well.

On the women's squad, the Bobcats had four top finishes. Bayle Wood notched the top finish out of this group with a fourth place nod in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.61m. In the track events, Jordyn Halvorsen finished sixth in the steeplechase to pace those finishes.

Lees-McRae will continue its outdoor season next weekend when it heads to Central, South Carolina to take part in the Susan Rouse Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
