BANNER ELK, N.C. –
Ryan Bird and
J.P. Galloway combined for 10 goals and 11 points, while
Tyler Finley chipped in three assists, but it was not enough as visiting Mars Hill outscored the host Bobcats 9-3 in the third quarter en route to clinching a 25-14 win in the non-conference match this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bird paced the Bobcats with a team-high six goals on 11 shots to go along with three ground balls, while Galloway tallied four goals and one assist.
- Brady Ferriter also scored twice, with Tyler Flannelly tallying a goal and an assist and Jake Emm scoring his first goal on Tate Field.
- Mars Hill sprinted out of the gates by scoring six of the first seven goals, with the lone Bobcat goal going to Bird on the extra-man opportunity.
- Lees-McRae closed the frame by scoring two of the final three goals, with both going to Galloway, to cut the lead to 7-3 at the first intermission.
- Bird and Galloway scored the first two goals of the second quarter to continue the trim the deficit, but a late surge by the Lions pushed the lead back to 12-6 at halftime.
- Mars Hill used a 9-3 run in the third quarter to hold a 21-9 advantage at the final intermission, the three Bobcat goals came from Ferriter, Flannelly, and Galloway.
- Bird scored four fourth-quarter goals to go along with a late goal by Emm, but it was too little too late as Mars Hill clinched the non-conference win.
- The Lions held a 35-24 edge in shots-on-goal, while Lees-McRae and Mars Hill finished 2 of 5 and 2 of 6 on extra-man opportunities respectively in the game.
FOR THE FOES:
- Zac Carrigan tallied a game-high 10 goals and three assists to pace the Lions, while Trevor Kennedy chipped in six goals.
- Steven Smith and AJ Howland combined to make 10 saves in net for Mars Hill.
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats will travel to Newberry on Saturday, Feb. 12 for the first of two consecutive road games.
