DUNCAN, S.C. – The Lees-McRae softball team, under head coach
Kendall Fuller, will make their first Conference Carolinas postseason appearance since winning the conference tournament in 2019 when they face No. 9 North Greenville as the No. 8 seed in a single-elimination play-in game on Thursday, April 28 at 12 p.m. at the Tiger River Park (Field 1) in Duncan, South Carolina.
Scouting the Bobcats…The Bobcats closed the regular season by winning six of their final eight games, including conference sweeps of Erskine and North Greenville, to finish with a 20-24 overall record (13-11 Conference Carolinas record) to clinch the No. 8 seed in the postseason tournament. Junior
Hannah Foster paced the Bobcats with a .397 hitting average to go along with a team-high 54 hits and 28 RBIs, while freshman
Megan Powell collected a team-high 11 home runs and 39 RBIs during the season. Junior
Jada Wilson and Powell enter the postseason with a 3.07 and 3.81 ERA respectively.
Scouting the Crusaders…The Crusaders finished the regular season with a 1-5 record to finish with a 20-28 overall record (12-12 Conference Carolinas record) to clinch the No. 9 seed in the tournament. Senior Brianna McRae paces the Crusaders with a .438 batting average this season with 60 hits and 41 RBIs, while junior Claire Gilmore is hitting .384 with 53 hits and 47 RBIs. Senior Bailey Pace has a 4.80 ERA with 69 strikeouts this season.
The Rivalry…Lees-McRae is 4-18 all-time against the Crusaders, but have won three of the four previous meetings, including a sweep in the doubleheader in Banner Elk on April 12. Lees-McRae clinched an 11-5 win in game one, before finishing with a 9-4 victory in the later game.
What's next…The winner of the play-in game will play No. 1 King in the first round on Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m., which will start the double-elimination rounds.
